I have a patient who wants to apply for a driving licence. According to DVLA
* Applicants or drivers complying
fully with a Consultant supervised
oral Methadone maintenance
programme may be licensed...

As I am a GP would he qualify or does he need referred to a consultant?

In a recent article i attempted regarding this very subject i did bring this paradox, along with others, up.
According to working grp (which has no s/u representation BTW, it's a panel chosen) there has to be a supervised consultant prog of t/ment.
The biggest paradox is the 'not known to treatment' for twelve months.
This could mean a pletheora of reasons even ......success.

My best

One of our GP's recently was involved with this and the DVLA seemed happy to accept a letter from him.

I think DVLA addressed this in the Feb 08 edition of Medical aspects.... Quote:
"In addition favourable Consultant or specialist report may be required on
reapplication" (my italics)
