Noticed Judith msaking mention of what she believed to be the relativly low take up of these services by primary crack users.
Are they taken up by Heroin users at a greater rate.
One worker I know rather unkindly likens Day Services to alcohol free beer, looks like berr, might even smell like beer but never does what beer does.
In these cash stricken times existences will have to be justifed like never before.

Structured day care seems to come in all shapes and sizes in different areas-some happen in a specific building and are based on group work models-not dissimilar to some of the things that happen in rehabs--our local one is very much a community based (non 12 step) alternative to res.rehab. One of its strong points is that its modular and there is a specific module (ie weekly afternoon session)just for stimulant users which is popular. I know that in some areas they are completely community based-ie don't happen in a certain building--people do different things during the week-eg college, voluntary work etc and meet up with their key worker once a week. maybe a lot of crack users would benefit from more "unstructured day care"?
I can see them becoming a more popular option (with commisisoners anyway) because of potential links with the "employment agenda".
