Can anyone help? I am seeking a short-term locum in order to salvage my NHS pension! I am an Addiction specialist (and UK trained GP). Any useful pointers appreciated.

Hi Martyn

I don't claim any experise in this but how about:

1. checking out http://www.jobs.nhs.uk/
2. same for Guardian on a Wednesday and Drink and Drug Jobs at http://www.drinkanddrugs.net/jobs/jobs.html
3. phone round prescribing CDTs and see if they have any vacancies, getting the contact details for any preferred areas from DrugScope's Helpfinder database at http://www.drugscope.org.uk/resources/databases/helpfinder.htm
4. Finally email the RCGP clinical leads (details on this web site somewhere probably, or Jim Barnard will know)and ask them if they have any local knowledge.

That's my bset shot.
Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon

actually I advised Martyn to post on here because I thought it might reach the most people. I thought registering with locum agencies stating special interest might work

when do you need to do this ? does it matter where in the UK? and how will it salvage your pension (if that is not too secret.. just curious)

If you can give a few more clues i will keep an ear open.

Hi Martyn
would I be right in assuming you've been doing private work until now? I'm not absolutely sure that locums would fix it as generally paid ad hoc? - you would need to negotiate being able to rejoin the pension scheme, but you would still need advice on implications of the break in contributions.

Having said this, I think a few phone calls to local CDTs would probably yield a few short term locums at least, and if you're up for prison work, I understand there are many current vacancies via locum agencies, or directly
