Is there a list of (or a search engine which will find) GPs with a special interest in addiction?

TIA

Jeff

Jeff, the above may help but you'd have to search each GP. I'm not aware of a way to find each individual one.
What about phoning the local DAAT? They'd know.
best wishes

Simon

There is no such thing as far as I'm aware for Nurses to be accredited with the NMC as a Practitioner with a special interest.

As far as I know there are only two accredited PwSI - and I know them both.
But I'm looking for a list of GPs with an interest in addiction. Specifically those most likely to be sympathetic to OTC/prescribed codeine addiction.

I don't think you are going to find a list as such. Simon's suggestion is good. The more senior GPwSIs might be more likely to have sufficinet expertise for treatment of dpendencies on OTC drugs

I agree. As a GPwSI myself, I would speak to someone at the DAAT for names of other GPs with interest or special interest.

Can patients/clients do this for themselves without having to reveal their name and address?

Jeff,
Yes, and most Dat's will have a service-user rep too. There is also help available from the Methadone Alliance if needs be oh and PALS.
cheers

Hi Jeff
If your question is can patients search for or find a GPwSI?
Then yes they can by following the routes already suggested. Hopefully within any DAt and such partnerships there should be a service user involvement/development/coordinator/rep/worker. As you see the title varies and also the amount of weight the particular DAT puts behind this obligation. Where some will assign some existing employee/officer with the task of 'user involvement'. Some will have gold standard User involvement and representation where a post is commisioned and hosted independentley. With the former i see many good workers struggling to promote UI whilst carrying a caseload plus whatever else. This could hardly be called effective user involvement. The latter doesn't mean you WILL get effective user involvement but financial, strategic and workforce support helps a whole lot.
Apologies for the tyrade. The short ans is call the DAT (or whatever it's called in your area) and ask for the person tasked with user Involvement and they will be of great assistance i'm sure as Judith and Simon have already rightly said.
My best
Tony B
