Hiya all, been a long time! Smile my NMPxing has come a long way and confideent in my practice now.

Just being tabled in the service i work for that i am wanted by the powers that be to run NMPx clinics at our other offices the same way i do in my base. this would mean those i prescribe for would at least double (currently i have cmp's for 120 clients).

i have a few concerns regarding this:

surely i would need to initially see each of these clients with the IP to agree the CMP?

is it considered generally safe/good practice for me to prescribe for circa 120 people that i dont have normal contact with and am not part of the team that over see the day to day progress of the clients?

am i just being a bit nervy as the prospect scares me somewhat?

on a slightly different issue, do any other NMP routinely sign all the repeat prescriptions?

sorry to post after a big break asking for help, but ive been busy busy busy Smile

thanks in advance Jon

Hi Jon,
My IP will normally see the patient before me or my prescribing colleague and agree a CMP then and I will also record in the records that i've noted the agreement.
It is quite clear that in law you have to assess each patient yourself before prescribing for them.
I do regularly see people I prescribe for or another of my Nurse or GP colleagues does. I don't think I'd be happy to prescribe for people if they are not seen regularly by someone I know well and work with.
I think you have to be wary of being used and you are carrying the can. I think it's sounding to me like someone is trying to take advantage and this is probably why you are getting some warning alarm bells in your head.
It sounds a bit to me like you may have a shortage of Doctors and the answer to that is more Doctors.
NMP's can allow extra patients in treatment BUT if we have more patients we also need more Doctors, don't let yourself be used.
Be very wary!
regards

Simon
