I'm interviewing for 4 post for potential Nurse Prescribers on friday. None of the shortlisted candidates are CURRENTLY nurse prescribers.
Any suggestions on interview questions

I would certainly suggest avoiding any questions based on your interests as outlinded on your member profile.Did the obligatory search, cannot now face my porridge!

Can't see a problem! But would prefer a good Merlot.

Seriously, if I was interviewing I would want some questions to be technical regarding the likely drugs to be prescribed, so make sure you have brushed up and the pharmacodynamics/kinetics adverse reactions, contraindications etc. so you can challenge the answers. eg 'what would need to be considered when prescribing for a client who was on anticonvulsants' Other questions are should be about safety for themself and the organisation, eg, 'how can you keep yourself, the client and our service safe?' so they need to be clear about limits, the use of protocols and guidelines and make sure all is clear about their own need (entitlement) for proper clinical supervision and associated support.

Beware of creating a handy one-stop-shop, keyworker, counsellor and script-issuer that helps meet targets but leaves them professionally isolated, so be clear you do not want macho eager-beavers. There is no harm in making some agreements at interview that can form an eventual contractual statement.

(but don't mention your hobby, even if asked)

I think you ought to be careful about the fact that candidates might be users of this web-site and therefor reading this thread. It could give them an unfair advantage. I think we should just respond to this with general topic areas rather than questions.

Thanx everyone, that's been a great help. I'm doing my bit for the RCGP cert tomorrow NMC, so I've finalised the questions for Friday.

Anyone interested in a copy let me know.

Just to update you, appointed 3 potential Nurse Prescribers today. One more may be transfered over (from Kaleidoscope). I've provisionally booked 2 places on the independant Nurse Prescribers course in September. Got 2 strong candidates & one with less experience ..but lots of enthusiasm...maybe one for the course next year.

thanx again

Great! Will be good to see more people prescribing in substance misuse. The NTA published a briefing paper on substance misuse non medical prescribing in 2005 and it stated that by 2008 there would be measurable benefits in reduced waiting times and increased quality. I think this is unlikely to be achievable as so few of us are actually prescribing still.
