We are a health service team and it has been agreed that we cannot wait for the CRS system to be installed to provide a database facility that is compatible with NDTMS (if it ever was going to be), so we are looking to buy and 'off the peg' system.

I have heard of EMIS and POPPY etc but before we go shelling out vast sums in licenses and agreements it would be useful to get other users recommendations (and cautions).

Anyone want to sell me a database??????

Thanks

Bill

We're about to receive the RESULT package. It's a standalone prescribing as well as records system. It's 'freeware' so not exorbitant to buy. We have not started using it yet so can't offer any words of caution. I met Jex Thompson over in Leeds who uses it in his service and he had good things to say about it.
Check RESULT out on http://www.lau.org.uk/result/ .

Will keep you posted on the good or bad news as it comes.

Cheers
Simon

See here;

I think it looks a very good system. Ticks all the right boxes for standards and seem to be a fairly active firm listening to their users.

Our local shared care scheme is getting this system shortly so will let you know how they get on.

Ian,
They had demo of this at rcgp conference, but it was very expensive. Might be worthwhile if you have a lot of patients. It did look good and knows bank holidays etc.
Would be far too expensive for us and I think it could not tie into patients EMIS records.

How about giving them a call and offering to be a pilot for an Ascribe Lite?

They do seem to have at least recognised that there could be a lively market for this growing area and may well be interested.

From what I understand of the technology used it uses standard calls to databases and could run alongside EMIS..haven't spoken to them about prices.

Hi people.
Can I re-open this old favourite.

RESULT, for those who don't know, have now left the market, and will no longer be licensed after March.
The system will still prescribe but wont support NDTMS submissions, and won't get any technical support.
Basically, services like ours will have to migrate to something else sooner rather than later.

Anyone in the same boat as us ie. RESULT users?
Anyone using APEGO (developed by ex-RESULT people?
What's good value for money?

Any ideas at all realyy much appreciated.

Simon

We're in the process of moving from RESULT and have looked at a variety of systems. We had difficulty in terms of information governance issues with the PCT and therefore decided to go with System One about whom we've heard good things. We also liked the look of Illy (?sp)

Hi Luke

SystemOne: that seems to be a generic GP Electronic sytsem like InPractice Vision, or Emis. Is that correct?

I googled for Illy and found an IT firm called IllyCorp but I couldn't find anything that looked like it applied to healthcare or SMS IT systems.

When you say 'we', who do you mean?
Reason I ask is that I'm interested in prescribing packages that can work out of GP practices.
Two of our shared care practices have Vision and they still cannot print controlled drug prescriptions for interval dispensing on FP10 (MDA)s, hence me looking at the options.

I've downloaded a trial of Scriptbase3 which seems very intuitive and easy to use.

Anyone out there using it?

Cheers for any responses on this.

Simon

Simon,

Systm1 - has a substance use seperate system, called systm1 rehab which is what we (Leeds PCT Drug Treatment Services) are likely to go with.

Illy - IllyCorp are the people as listed on the NTA software providers webpage:

NTA software providers

These are both databases which have a script writer - but not sure how good the script are. Do you need a database or just a script writer?

A scriptwriter Luke.

So, Systm1 rehab is a combined substance misuse database and prescriber?
And you'd have one main databse installed at your PCT based drug service which did all the scripts and NDTMS stuff?

And if so, is it costly to buy and license?

Simon

PS. I really appreciate this.

Yes the plan is to use Systm1 rehab as a database that writes scripts, does NDTMS returns and where we record our clinical notes.

I understand that the PCT has bulk ordered the system and therefor no cost for us - except maybe data migration and tayloring the system to our individual needs.

ps. No problem

Hi to all
Very important, I believe, to know when choosing database package whether it will be Connecting for Health (CfH) compliant. If not, you could run into problems with funding in future, plus there are intended be useful on-line packages of interest to substance misuse services (like NDTMS - will start another thread on this) and others which will be rolled out via CfH

Hi David

Here's the systm1 website

TPP website

Look down the left hand side of this website and you'll see the different packages they offer.

Hope that helps

Hi
Has anyone at your PCT told you (or do you know anyway) how much it costs Luke?
