Have read a study which states that the above might control exessive sweating among methadone patients.
http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/160/2/386 I get very excessive sweating, which is highly embarrassing in some situations. Do you think i could get this drug? I take it its only licensed for certain conditions or can a GP just prescribe it? |

Drew, it does sound interesting because this is something many people complain of (although its not listed as a side effect). I'll try and do some research, because you are quoting an american web-site and they have different drugs available and sometimes the same ones with different names.
However if it is available you could try presenting this (admittedly anecdotal) evidence to your prescriber to see what they think. jim |

Jim, all i can find out about it,is that its an anticolinergic used to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Surely, this would not be licensed for excessive sweating, or could it be used should a doctor saw fit to use it in this scenario?
Its listed in the uk as Akineton |

Hi Simon,
That link is the report I was shown...still not sure which anticholinergic they are referring to, Nigel |

I have resolved this one (sadly): Biperiden = Akineton in the UK (anti-parkinsonian drug)
Akineton was manufactured by Abbot until 2006 when it lost its UK licence - perhaps the UK licence just expired. It is no longer available in the UK so it would take a research project for us to be able to try it out, Nigel |
