At the recent RCGP conference the Professor from Glasgow mentioned the use of low dose naltrexone for synmptoms of post-opiate detox dysphoria which I find is a real problem with some patients. I did a little exploration... It's used by others for stimulating the immune system (endorphins and enkephalins) in patients with chronic disease and cancers and I discovered through an internet reference that Dicksons Pharmacy in Glasgow will supply it on NHS prescription by post though it is not licensed (1mg up to 4.5mg tablets). Does anyone out there use it already post-detox and do you know if there is any evidence base for post-detox patients?
