Hi

Anyone aware of anywhere in the country where pharmacists do Hep B vaccination?

Thanks

Hi Beryl
Looks like they're doing it in the Isle of Wight as a specific adjuct to a dry blood spot testing pilot that runs through till August:

Thank you for your reply Simon. I think it's a great idea and cannot understand why it's not done in more places.

I imagine a lot of pharmacies run on locums and not many pharmacists will be trained to give injections.
Nurses of course can do these things and should be jabbing people at every opportunity.

Hi

Most areas are ensuring site & pharmacy NX incorporate latest
NICE recommendations http://guidance.nice.org.uk/PH18

There should be a range of level 1 2 & 3 pharmacy provision in
every area & evel 3 should be able to refer for Vac's & dressings.

If all else fails suggest In reach and contingency management,
find local champions and get the issues in the needs assessment

The Isle of Wight do seem to have overcome some of the obstacles of training etc, and I was told yesterday that they have had excellent uptake for this pharmacy vaccination scheme in the first year.. It is relatively small numbers, being a small population, of course, but it makes brilliant sense to me, as the pharmacists certainly see our patients the most regularly and frequently. apparantly they are thinking of extending the scheme to cover other kinds of vaccinations, now that they have all been trained..

Kevin, out Bham. DAAT pharmacy lead, is going to have a look in the next couple of weeks I think. Hopefully he'll bring back some sticks of rock.
